German Chamomile plants produce small white compound flowers with bright yellow central discs. An abundance of chamomile seeds are produced on each disc or seedhead, which germinate in 7-10 days when exposed to adequate soil, sunlight, and water. When the seeds are left on the plant to mature and spread naturally, a chamomile plant can quickly turn into a beautiful chamomile spot.

How to grow German Chamomile from Seed:

Sow in Spring, water immediately after sowing and keep moist. Chamomile seeds germinate in 7-10 days when exposed to adequate soil, sunlight, and water. When planting chamomile seeds indoors, fill a seed tray with a well-draining potting mix, then simply scatter the seeds over loose soil and lightly squash them or water them with a light mist. These seeds do not require any special care, they only need to be well watered and in loose soil and to be in sun and half shade.

Chamomile Growing tips:

  • These Plants do not like being transplanted once their roots have established and begin to produce flowers, so many gardeners prefer to sow the seeds directly in the garden.
  • This plant demands many nutrients, so it is preferable to apply compost once a month for good growth.
  • Chamomile is a plant that thrives in full sun or partial shade. The soil should always be kept moist, never soggy, and well-drained.

Medicinal Use:

Chamomile is a medicinal plant that in tea form relieves upset stomachs, relaxes muscles, helps sleep, and reduces pain from menstrual cramps. This plant is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, used for dermatitis, chickenpox, wounds, gum inflammation, among other things.

Seeds germinated well and some transplants did okay. I had to resow a couple of times outside. They were a little slow to grow but once they did, BAM! they spread and grew a lot!
