Dill is in the Apiaceae plant family, which also contains well-known plants like carrot and many other herbs such as parsley, coriander, and cumin. Tall and stocky with excellent branching and clustering. It has great foliage production with wispy bushy growth that isn’t shy about putting on weight. And they smell divine!
Its leaves and seeds are widely used as a herb and spice for flavoring food in Europe and Asia.

Dill Plant Growing and Care
- Sunlight Requirement: Plant dill in full sun.
- Sowing: Dill seeds should be sown directly into the garden because it doesn’t transplant well. Sow dill seeds about ¼-inch deep and 16 inches apart.

Uses
Homemade dried herbs are so much more flavorful than store-bought varieties. Dill is used as fresh herb but can also be dried under the sun and stored for later use.
Use Dill on Salads, popcorn, chicken, marinades, smoothies, and of course, pickles
It’s a favourite of many beneficial insects and butterflies. The flowers are very attractive and look beautiful in pickle jars.
Tip: For pickles or other cooking methods, harvest just prior to the opening of flowers. For fresh dill, harvest when the plant is green and mature.
