Growing and Care Instructions for Marigold:

  1. Location: Choose a sunny spot, as marigolds require at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day for best growth.
  2. Soil: Plant in well-draining soil, preferably loamy or sandy. Marigolds are not fussy about soil pH but prefer slightly acidic to neutral conditions.
  3. Watering: Water regularly but avoid over-watering. Marigolds thrive on dry conditions, so water only when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry.
  4. Spacing: Space the plants 8-10 inches apart for smaller varieties and up to 18 inches apart for larger varieties.
  5. Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in soil, lightly covering them.
  6. Germination: Seeds typically germinate in 5-7 days under ideal conditions of warmth and moisture.
  7. Fertilization: Marigolds do not need heavy fertilization. A light, balanced fertilizer once a month can encourage healthy blooms.
  8. Deadheading: Regularly remove spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering throughout the season.
  9. Pests: Watch out for aphids, slugs, and spider mites. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil as a natural remedy.
  10. Mulching: Apply a layer of mulch around the plants to retain soil moisture and control weeds.
  11. Season: Marigolds are best grown in warm seasons and will flower throughout spring and summer, lasting until the first frost.
  12. Companion Planting: Marigolds are excellent companion plants, known for deterring garden pests like nematodes.
