Uses: In eastern medicine practices they use the morning glory flower in teas to help with digestion, aid in fighting bacteria as well as using it for its anti-inflammatory benefits including treating bronchitis & regulating blood sugar

As a Psycedelic: The Maya used the plant in a beverage to facilitate communication with the spirits to predict the future or to come to an understanding of otherwise incomprehensible events.
The primary psychoactive substance in the morning glory is ergine, or D-lysergic acid amide (LSA).

The seeds have a rich cultural and traditional use among native Mexicans such as the Chontal Indians of Oaxaca, the Aztecs and the Zapotecs.  It was known that the seeds were used to communicate with the Gods, as well as in rituals to assist in divination and for the healing of various diseases. These seeds were considered sacred among the Aztecs along with other entheogenic plants known for their ability to open doors into the unseen worlds. Like many tribes in South America, the Aztecs believed that every plant has a spirit and a consciousness, however only a few held the gift to open these portals to other worlds.

The seeds of the plant are in pods that are produced once the plant has reached full maturity. The seeds have a very hard coating, which has to be nicked if the seed is to be used.

Sowing instruction:
Morning glory seed has a hard seed coat. To aid germination, nick or cut the seed coat with a nail file and soak the seed overnight. Direct sow seeds in average soil. Seedlings will emerge in 7-21 days.

Care:
Morning Glory vines need little care and are easy to grow. Morning glory is a vigorous vine; choose a location next to a support for the vines to climb.

  1. Chanda

They’re sprouting very nicely. I want them to grow up the posts of my porch and the length of a long stone wall behind the house. I always loved the look of these flowers. I just wish they would stay completely open all day. I didn’t realize how small these seeds are, and it turns out that I bought way more than I needed. So, as a tip to first time buyers, you don’t need many to cover a large area..

  2. Arpann
