Galgal Lemon

Galgal is a wild lemon from the Western Himalayas. It grows in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Nepal. Locals call it Pahadi Nimbu or Hill Lemon. It is one of India’s oldest citrus fruits.
The fruit is big 200 to 300 grams each. Skin is thick, bumpy and pale yellow when ripe. The peel alone makes up 25 to 35 percent of the fruit.
Taste is sharp and sour. The rind adds a pleasant bitterness. Aroma is deep and complex.
The tree is tough. It handles 40°C summers and -4°C winters. No frost damage. Grows in poor soil with little water.
