Purple Kanthari is a bird eye chilli from Kerala. Locals call it Kanthari Mulaku. It grows as a small bush and in warm climates it lives for years.

The pods start deep purple and turn orange then red as they ripen. Fruits grow upright , 1 to 3 cm long.

Heat is 50,000 to 100,000 SHU but some growers claim higher. The burn is sharp and clean and does not linger too long.

Flavor is fruity with citrus notes. Purple pods taste bland. Wait until they turn red for full heat and flavor.
